my yearly ritual...

At this time of year, most people are switching out calendars and moving info from one to another. I use a 5 year appointment calendar so I just can look back quite easily. My yearly ritual is to change the cover on my ironing board. It gets all stained from the dyed cloth and occasional burns, etc. I like ironing on a smooth cotton surface so I hunt through my stash for a big enough piece of a solid color. This year I'm going to try and use a small piece of cloth on the board when I'm ironing newly dyed cloth to prevent it from staining so easily.

the ironing board is right in front of my design wall and stays opened
I also did some doodling on the cover of my leaf book. I posted about the leaf book  here.

a bit of zentangling
My magic cloth is 'feeling' better each day in the handling. And I did some more work on the meditative stitching piece. More about those two things next time.

The best way to change an others point of view is to always be yourself...

I bought my new cover last week, but haven't changed it yet. I had to put down a piece of sheeting as my board has a lot of fusing glue on it!

I would love to see a photo of the old cover. I wonder if that bruised, scorched and coloured fabric could be used for anything?

Hey there--access for a minute--so hello- I dropped by to catch up quick and say I don't even have an ironing board (though I do have a n iron in a box)...so slovenly are my housekeeping habits--I make great neat stacks (known for neatness).

third girl: it will definitely be used. it's in the wash basket right now. since it's cotton, i will then soak it in soy milk and dye it with all sorts of things. it's a pale blue...or was when it started out.

I love that you're going to re-use your ironing board cover!

I have two ironing board covers. One is "supposed" to be put on before I iron dyed cloth or fuse. As if I would remember to switch the covers - lol! The Zentangle on your book is beautiful.

Zentangle leaves...I love them. I am a real doodler, so they really appeal. Love yours for your leaf book!

Looking forward to seeing more of your meditative piece too.

I love your zentangling. What you've done on the leaves brings out the natural zentangling in the dyed cloth. Love those beads with it!

Love your leaves, Deanna. And thanks for reminding me: forget the cover, it's time for a new heavier duty ironing board this year. Why is it something so basic and often used seems like such a luxury to me? Need to do it though.

I like how you've connected the colours, patterns and shapes of beads, cloth and zentangle.

The zentangle works so nicely on your cloth. Geez, I haven't changed my ironing board cover in years--guess it's time!

Deanna, Ahhh...there is just so much good about this post. I never thought of making my own cover and I used to ruin them all the time back in the day of Fusible!!!! What a nice New Years ritual! And the leaves are great. I like the way you pose your photos :) That's my favorite part-pulling things together. Can't wait to see more, more, more of everything!

I love your ironing board cover ritual. I need a new cover, but wanted a cute one, not the silvery-blue one, didn't even think of making my own! And then, Jeannie mentions she has two, one for the messes and one for regular. How could I have lived this long and not thought of it? Always learning...

The zentangle is just wonderful, I need to direct a friend who zentangles to come see yours!

to all of you who have been inspired to make your own ironing board cover. just want to say that mine is just a long enough and wide enough piece of cotton folded in half so that it is a double thickness. i then just pin it all around to the actual grey heat resistant ironing board cover that's already in place. i don't sew a stitch so it's really easy and if it just gets dirty, you can remove it and throw it in the wash.

Love that leaf, and your tradition. I'm in love with Nikki McClure (wood cut prints) calendars so I don't have any writing to do...
