Shibori and Beet Juice

I had pickled some beets a while back and when all that was left was the juice, I had to use it for dyeing. The beets were delicious. Will have to make some more. I had bought a white cotton remnant last week and when I went to iron it, I discovered it had fusible on one side. I took some silk chiffon and fused it to the cotton. I then followed Nat's tutorial on Komasu Shibori and put it in the beet juice jar that was out in the sun. I couldn't hold out more than 2 days. I rinsed it out this morning and put it in the dryer and was pleasantly surprised at the results. The cotton side is very light pink but the silk chiffon side is a lovely dusty pink and the design shows up well. Couldn't get the exact colors in the pictures but you get the idea. I'm going to try the left over hanky pieces (see my last post) next which are a sheer cotton.

I love the idea of using natural dyes. The design is lovely. Sometimes "mistakes" turn out better than the original idea. By fusing the silk you got two lovely colors.

Wow Deanna, you did good while I slept! Beautiful color and the komasu design turned out well. I can't get that color if I try. I want to try beets next. Which part do you used? Leave or roots? Great job, I bet you are happy - Hugs Nat

This is so lovely. I'm preparing to try some natural dying. I can "prepare" forever. Such a waste. Anyway, I am fascinated also by the shibori pattern - I would never guess, by looking at your knots, that you would end up with this all over geometric pattern. So, just beets and vinegar ... and then wash it out ... that's it? I'm reading India's book, which is a pleasure, but I can't really put off starting until I have taken it all in ... that may never happen! :-)

I bought some huge farmers market beets last sunday and have yet to boil them up but the idea was to use the juice too lol
Amazing result for the stitching and bonus with the bonded side!
