Journals for Whispers

Following Jude's whispering series creates lots of ideas and suggestions. There aren't enough hours in the day to expand on all of them so I thought I'd make some little cloth journals where I could try out those ideas and suggestions. Somehow doing a little sample imprints it on my mind more than just reading or hearing about it. So I made three small journals. The pages are just muslin and there's lots of room to make little samples that will all be in one place.
first entry are thread beads

Found bunches of this wool thread at the thrift store a few weeks ago and decided to experiment with some crocheted flowers. It is all wool so I'm hoping it will felt after being washed. Don't have anything particular in mind----just playing.

what a great idea for the whispering journal! i had thought to bind some of my sample "pages" together into a cloth book myself...but to set out with a blank one to fill like a journal is a wonderful idea!

love your crocheted flowers, too!

I love this idea of whispering journal. The piece of blue shibori is gorgeous Deanna. Did you dyed it? What a great find of those woolen yarn. Have fun with them - Hugs Nat

I agree with Joe, such a good idea, I am not getting it all on cloth and small samples certainly would help.

It will felt up Deanna, have done that myself but go easy if you put them in wash machine, they can soon go rock hard, esp if its vinatge crewel wools...I ended up with mini discuss out of one batch I washed that way lolol
So did a thorough hand felt rubbing in my hands next times round!
Such agreat shame about youir fig tree, would the fruit ripen up if left on the branches do you think, enough for the birds at least?
Mind you if you have room, it could be a great piece of timber for creepy crawlies and bees to hide away in!

such a good idea. a new way of taking notes, just like in college. i've imagined making books with favorite fabrics to be able to page through favorites & the memories they bring, but really like this.
