Finishing up loose ends...

I made my sister a necklace many years ago that she says she wears all the time. Well, it fell apart and it has been sitting here for a long time waiting for repair and a bit of a new life. I added the black beads because the silver ones were all worn away and I added an updated clasp. Hope she will like it.

lots of little fetishes that were popular long ago
I've been experimenting with cotton cloth and the resists I've been using in shibori. The colorhue dyes will not work on cotton so I tried the Dynaflow paints which are very fluid. Well, it was not successful but look at what turned up---4 pairs of eyes to play with.

those little circles were made by folding the cotton and using 2 CDs as a resist. the resist did not prevent the paint from spreading so I now have 4 pairs of eyes to play with.

Also hoping to be able to finish this little bobbin lace piece, that I've been working on for too long, before class on Tuesday. It's taken me a long time to feel comfortable with this craft but persistence is paying off. I'm starting to understand more and more with each piece.

11 pairs of bobbins with linen thread and lots of patience

And this is my 200th post, so tomorrow is the giveaway. Come back.

love your "eyes" could you duplicate it again or was it "by accident"? I also love your bobin lace and your patience to make it. Ha! it does not seem that easy, but love to see the old arts still being done. Kudos to you.

if you used 2 CDs how big are those eyes? they are so real!!! making lace must be very difficult and need a good pair of eyes, is the shibori class over?

perhaps those lovely blue eyes are looking,
wondering what will come next...
i'm pondering over the same, actually.
sort of, a loss of connectedness.

thanks all for your comments.
herm--we're only into the 3rd week of the shibori class. 2 more lessons to go. the eyes are 2" across and a little more than 1" high. the cd has an open center where i put the paint and the paint just spread (lighter color)under the cd even though it was clamped to the fabric. i could probably repeat the process. why don't you try it?

Those eyes are great - and so is your bobbin lace, which looks complex to do. Happy 200th!

It is always a wonder to visit your blog and see what you are up too! Eyes, a necklace and bobbin lace! I could never have guessed. Each piece is wonderful, the eyes look very real, love the fetish necklace, and the bobbin lace is amazing. Thank you as always for your sharing.

love the necklace deanna, and the eyes. But that bobbin lace looks extremely difficult.

What clever eyes but what draws mine is your new blog header, especially the middle photo, your beautiful green shibori leaf: two of my favorite things, the color green and a lovely leaf.

those eyes! those eyes! wonderful!! i can see a myriad of possibilities!! mmmmmmmm!!

i've ordered a couple of shibori books and am hoping to maybe have some time to digest them and adapt the techniques to some crazy ideas i have floating around in my noggin just as soon as they arrive on my doorstep.

your bobbin lace looks like it is coming along beautifully! it's amazing how truly simple bobbin lace is once you grasp the free floating warp thread concept, isn't it? makes me long to break out my old bobbins and pillows and get to work on something new! or pull the lathe out of storage and go back to turning bobbins again! who knows? maybe when it warms up a bit, i may do just that!
