a nice thrift store find...

I stopped in at the thrift store this afternoon and so glad I did. I found this lovely example of Chikan Embroidery in this blouse that looks brand new. It was only $2 and it actually fits.  I really bought it just for all the stitching that I could see close up since I'm taking a class with Anita of artistic fingers. More about that at the end of this past post. And for those of you who were interested, here are some good examples of what the stitching looks like front and back.

Chikan Embroidery---blouse front

Chikan Embroidery---back of stitches

And, of course, the experimenting continues in Karen's class:

making lace on the machine...I started blanket stitching over it for a different effect.

I started planting seeds this past weekend and really wanted to plant purple carrots for eco dyeing. Jeannie was so kind to send me some seeds and also some of her beautifully dyed indigo cloth and embroidery thread. Can't wait to dive into that pile. Thanks Jeannie.

lovely find. i've been seeing some of the chikan embroidery - those small stitches is what i hear. you are really getting a good stitch vocabulary. i tagged a few of your pieces over on flicker - the ones with the roving are really fine. i like the dimensional quality. must feel nice as well. lots of new "toys" for you. cheers

The blouse is beautiful and will be wonderful on a hot summer's eve. I am so glad you like your treats and I hope the seeds provide hours of dyeing fun. Your class projects are so very beautiful. The one with the roving and paper is gorgeous. Wishing you a beautiful weekend.

What a great find! And I love the interesting stitching you are doing. I came across purple carrots while on holidays a few years ago but haven't seen them since. More fun dyeing ahead, I bet!

What a wonderful parcel of goodies from Jeannie. I do admire how you just get on with experimenting....mine is like a staggered gait compared to your straight and true sprint! :~)

Deanna, you do very well at the thrift store! This blouse is lovely and I love that you appreciate and understand all the hand-stitching on it. Whoever owned it before probably just didn't know. Wow...

Glad you showed that purple carrot package from Jeanne because I forgot to buy them and now I even know where to order them from! Yay. A lovely bundle she sent you, she's an amazing dyess!

wow Deanna, your "making lace on the machine" is very intrigueing!
how have you done that?
are you weaving your own scrim?
or have you pulled all the crossing threads from a square section?
and then hand sewn them withthe twisted blanket stitch.
I fell in love with a scarf of the most beautiful very open weave hand woven fine linen at Planet here in Sydney whilst seeing India Flint's magical cloth in real life...

what a great find! sometimes I buy what I think are 'cutters' and end up adding them to my or the guys' wardrobes instead. P.S. I signed up for Karen's class!! (I think you recommended it to me... ) you seem to be having such a productive/fun time with her, that I couldn't resist. P.P.S. Sweet butterfly, cat post.

That Chikan embroidered blouse is a fantastic find! You can just tell everyone you stitched it (giggle). I've never heard of purple carrots and will have to investigate that! Love seeing your projects.
