scrim and paper stitchings...

more samples from Karen Ruane's class... click on the pics for a closer view.

stitched hexagons on handmade paper

free motion embroidery on soft but sturdy paper

it started out with scrim machine stitched on cloth (right); hand stitched some holes and then did more hand stitching to distort the fiber (left).

free motion stitching done on paper with scrim, some hand stitching and frayed the scrim edge.

scrim scratching experiment...more to experiment with this idea.

AND...
I did wear my completed bobbin lace collar (sorry...not a great picture).

i am fascinated by the scrim work...very nice in the hand too i bet. look like spiders spinning. the collar looks medieval and regal. cheers and good weekend deanna. 80s here - too warm for me!

Wow Deanna! I am in love with the loose intutive nature of the spider web lace on the scrim over that pale blue & white sky cloth and the way those stitched holes inside the stitched squares amplifies the nature of the open weave in the scrim... you are opening up so many new directions!

You and your collar are beautiful together. Your samples are gorgeous! I love the organic nature of the stitching on the scrim and the hexies are beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
