my Indigo seeds...there's still hope

5 little sprouts have sprung from the soil...you probably will need to click on the image to see them.

i numbered them since they are so tiny...just babies.
so there's still hope for indigo this year. these are the seeds that Sandy of Discovery Cloth sent me. thank you Sandy. i have added some of the seeds i purchased to the pot, just today. my hopes have been restored.

My friend Margaret gifted me this wonderful book yesterday. It has so many beautiful illustrations and great details of bird's eyes and feet that I'll be able to use in my stitching. Lots of good information as well. I especially loved the page on the Hummingbirds. I have a hummingbird feeder in my front yard and this morning (wasn't fast enough to get a picture), one of the hummingbirds kept circling the feeder taking a little sip from every yellow flower as if they were all a different flavor. It was so cute to watch. Here are some pics from the book. Thank you Margaret.

And finally, for those of you who follow Jude, Janet did a wonderful post on her blog, Art Journey, in memory of WAS. You can see it here.

Have a great weekend.

We've got the seeds, just need to get some in the ground! So much to do around here! That bird book is wonderful - I've seen it, and think I need a copy too. Thanks also for the support - Was was fantastical.

GO GO IND-GO!!! That's such good news. Your sister has exquisite taste. What charming illustrations, and I love the last shot holding the book up in the foreground with the real thing in the background. I think I'll have a look at the double moon post now.

I am very interested in seeing how your indigo grows and devolops. And then to see what you will do with it: do you ferment it?
Hummungbirds are so pretty, unfortunately we do not have them here.

Bryan's Japanese Textiles said: Mine have just poked through as well. Reminding me to go and till the field and get it ready for the baby indigo plants next month. I covered a few of the bedding seed trays with a plastic cover and these ones sprouted a week quicker than their friends without a lid. The fallen seeds from winnowing last fall are already three centimeters tall. There is a chance of frost still. I lost a few hundred seedlings a few years ago and keep an eye on the weather so the seed trays can be moved inside. I had to start over again that time and somehow the plants never really took off that year because of the late start. Best of luck.
Bryan's comment didn't show up on blogger so i have manually posted it.

it's fun watching everyone's seedlings grow in their own time. i have exactly five too. mine are looking ready to transplant, but i'm so worried about disturbing them. sending love to yours.

Deanna, fingers crossed for lots of blue in your life very soon. And the book -- well, it's going on my wish list from just the little I've seen of it here -- thanks for showing it. I didn't see any hummingbirds when I was there, darn -- but lots of others that I couldn't identify and with such exotic birdsong, almost tropical-sounding.

Oh that's wonderful! So glad we all were patient enough to wait. :)

I'll have to keep an eye out for that book...
