The Double Shift

I was so anxious to try this that I did it in record time. I found some luscious knit velour fabric that was stashed away in a basket for who knows how many years. I had started making a Japanese style blouse but never finished (another ufo). All the pieces were cut out and the collar was bound with some beautiful piping along the edge. Pulled out some satiny type purple and lilac fabric and stripped and stitched away.

I do have plans to build on this one to make a larger piece. Maybe it will represent some kind of a 'time warp'. I need to think about this one...

Here are some photos. Your comments, criticisms and ideas are always welcome.

You've taken the weave and RUN with it! Way cool what's happening here :>}

Do you find the velour *holds* the satiny bits fairly well?

no, not at all. the back of the velour is a slick knit so there's a lot of slipping and sliding. I stitched around the 4 sides first and then tackled the in between and still when i got to the other end, i had to rip out some of the stitching to readjust. the satiny fabric was not the wisest choice but i liked the color combination with the grey. once i got it all stitched down, the circles were easy to do.

Hi Deanna- wow you have been very creative here. I love the double weavings with cutouts on post below. Thanks very much for your regular postings. I enjoy so much thinking that you are always exploring new ideas and ways. I have been so busy at Uni I am only stitching on weekends at the moment. Your blog makes me feel as if I am doing more! you would never guess to look at the results that this process involved multiple layers of slipperiness. it is inspiring and feels special. Will it be incorporated in something larger or kept for now as a sample?

deanna7trees said...

thanks, acey. i'm trying to combine this with some other pieces, maybe even with some of my beasts. i would very much like to put all my samples together but that's not working out. i should have stuck to one color palette but i took it all over the place.

I like your use of colour here deanna. And the turning of the centre circle gives it a focus.

very nice.

deanna i still think this is the best circle spinning ever. i am going to copy you at some point! .. if you don't mind. i think the purple to lavender is what makes it work so well. of course, i am not going to try it with slippery fabric... i don't have that much patience!
