Had never seen a dragonfly with a red body until this morning. Went out to turn off the sprinkler that was watering the grass and this beautiful dragonfly was flying around me and then landed on a small rose bush. I ran in and got my camera and luckily he was still there when I returned. After doing some research, I believe it is an Autumn Meadowhawk. While clicking, clicking, clicking, one picture after another, along came a huge, beautiful butterfly. He landed on a branch of the yaupon tree and stayed there for about 3 minutes while I continued to click away.
Autumn Meadowhawk Would probably see a lot more if I stayed outside more, but it's still much too hot. Looking forward to cooler weather. |

Glorious, a red dragonfly*. I've seen green and iridescent ones but never a red one; something magical about all of this. Would make a special beast cloth since it is such a rare sighting. Butterfly photo equally lovely. Just terrific that you saw this and was able to share it with all of us Deanna.
yes, definitely magical marti. it will definitely show up in a cloth.
Wow, Deanna, what a magical gift you were given.
Beautiful photo! It does look a lot like the red dragonfly I photographed in Israel. Unfortunately, we don't have such beautiful butterflies. I wish we did!
That dragonfly is amazing! I have never seen one that dramatic...but I have never been that close to one either, much to my chagrin.
