what i've been working on...

my posts are getting farther and farther apart...aren't they. i am working on things but quietly and with much thought about lots of things. a few more baskets have been completed with what was left of the clothesline. this will be it for awhile. some have been gifted and were well received. the ones here were done with a zig-zag stitch on the machine.

click on the images for a close-up view.

made with whtite dotted swiss organdy fabric and a bit of lace

cotton fabric and both are about 5½" in diameter. the covers are attached to the base.

i'm also taking a self-study watercolor class by Carla Sonheim. you can read about it here. the watercolor is done on t-shirt iron-on transfer paper and then manipulated and ironed onto paper or fabric. here are a couple of things i've done so far.

watercolors, ball point pen, water soluble markers ironed onto watercolor paper

painted t-shirt transfer cut up and parts ironed onto watercolor paper...the beginnings of a face

and a few posts back i showed how i was enlarging blouses that were a bit too small by adding fabric to the sides from the wrist edge to the hem bottom. well i have this very old sweater that i cannot part with. it was a bit too small after washing it in the machine so i'm knitting sections and adding them to the sides. i couldn't match the ecru color so i'm using a lace weight variegated yarn that matches the embroidered flowers. i tried it on last night and it will fit perfectly when finished. still have a bit to go and it needs blocking. the added pieces really don't show much at all when it's on the body.

knitted additions from the wrist to the hem bottom. still needs blocking.

Do you sew the rows of the baskets by machine or by hand?

What wonderful things you've made, Deanna. I just went oh-oh-oh every photo. And I am intrigued by your sweater project. When I am able to work quietly and thoughtfully, I'll think of you doing the same.

I love those baskets Deeana & will be interested to see how you combine stitch with painting! have a look at these lace vessels by Alvena Hall in the Love Lace Show that is still on here-

trust me you are a regular blogger compared to me - but when you are producing such lovely things - i too would be more involved in the making then showing. the baskets are wonderful - i really like the white one - for no special reason other then i think it is quite unique. i'm also intrigued by the painting you are doing. t-shirt transfers have come a long way since my days - in those days it was just silk screen and it wasn't something you could do at home - lovely. how much fun and something i think your little neighbor friend might be interested in trying her hand at. love the idea. and i can understand why you wouldn't want to part with that sweater. i have stuff too that i don't wear but for some reason i just can't part with it. this solve all the problems and more. deanna you always have so many different projects going - i'm always fascinated by what you are cooking up next. hope your holiday is quiet and that the ideas just flow flow flow...cheers

Those baskets are gorgeous Deanna... and lucky you having some swiss dot fabric! Beautiful gifts which I'm sure were well received and will be treasured.

And your watercolour class with Carla Sonheim looks great...lots of fun and a technique I havent heard of before.

Thanks for sharing it all with us.

Your blog post can't be more further apart than mine. Some people were commenting that because of Facebook now more and more people preferred the quick and easy way of posting. I still enjoy my blog, but we only have so many hours in a day to do everything. I love your white basket. You can add embroidery on it nah!

A great watercolour technique to create a texture is to use salt crystals. You need sel-de-mer or rock salt, not table salt, and when you've prepared a wash, sprinkle it with salt and allow to dry completely. The salt will just brush off, leaving an intriguing pattern behind...

it seems to be a slow season for many of us. admiring your cityscape among the other good things you're making here.

I am posting less, you do. I guess there are phases in which we are more withdrawn and reach out less easily.
But your creativity is as fruitful as usual!
