this week has gone by too fast...

i'm really enjoying spinning with the drop spindle. i've been experimenting plying with a commercial lace yarn and i like the way it turned out. you can see from this picture that i'm getting better with practice.

i think this thinner yarn might be good for a pair of socks

i've cleaned out the small garden bed, added some new ingredients and planted lettuce, radishes, spinach and peas. the radishes are already up in record time.

added some trellis' to allow the pea vines to climb

i found this great idea for making market bags from old t-shirts on Instructables.com. there's no sewing involved and it takes about 15 minutes. here's the link if you want to try it.
just cut off the sleeves and part of the neck and fringe and tie the bottom edge
still working on the socks...not too crazy about the afterthought heel. i didn't like doing the Kitchener stitch...kind of fussy.

working on the second sock

and there are a couple of things waiting in the wings:

this crochet pattern from Piecework magazine---just for the challenge

and this shawlette pattern from craftsy.com.

i'm hoping this yarn will be the right weight

i also have several stitching projects in the works but haven't done much stitching this week. i ran out of time. wishing you all a good weekend.

Love the market bag idea! Wondering how long your growing season lasts?

This post is chock full of interesting things.
Seeing your results with spinning I am more and more tempted to learn myself, but as you say, time is short and I have some other priorities. Anyway congratulations for mastering it so quickly.
The shopping bag is brilliant, I like the shawlette and the crochet pattern (so colourful).
I do not like kitchener's stitch either, I do my best to avoid it since mine is never neat but rather ugly! Winter is approaching, time to knit socks again.

Love that oak yarn and the shawlette pattern, it will be very cosy and welcoming. And you must be kidding with that Piecework challenge, bet you don't make a 2nd one! Kitchener stitch is a bit fussy, but good to try all different styles.
Great to see what you've planted, they should all do well in early Winter. And lastly i love your spinning/plying, the yarn and it's colours are so feminine. cheerio for now, have a good weekend yourself.

Suzanna---we're going into the Fall season here and we sometimes get a cold spell in Nov.- Dec. but some winters are so mild that we could probably grow some of the cool weather veges through the winter. every year seems to be different lately.

hi deanna. i haven't been blog visiting in a while - karen's keeps you busy...but really love everything that you are doing. the spinning and knitting is just beautiful. that's one thing on my list - spinning and felting too. but right now the time i have is limited so stitching it is. the shawl in "oak" can't be a better color for that project. talk to you later.

Deanna~ What a beauty-filled, colorful & busy post!! My word, I'd say you ran out of time!! Love to see the spinning coming along. The chair near your garden plot is fun! Great idea for old t-shirts, I've got lots of those :) The piecework pattern sure does look to be a challenge and so pretty. And the shawl looks so soft and cozy, perfect for fall! Have fun with all your projects!

I especially love the crochet pattern and the thought that you can spin your own yarn for anything you choose must be very satisfying.

boy that multi-colored crochet project really WILL be a challenge (watch, you'll have it done in no time!!!)

can't believe you're spinning, plying and knitting sock weight yarn into socks already.
the shawl pattern looks fun, having a different weight shouldn't matter much w/a shawl, it will just be wider or thinner, easily altered if that's a concern.

Wow, you're really going to be busy! The hand spun wool is great - so even!

I have yet to try afterthought heels - they make me crazy just thinking about them. You are a brave woman!

I adore your beautiful little tag! It still amazes me! Thank you so very, very much!
