the purple carrots are a disappointment...

but i will try and use the little that is there to overdye some silk pieces.

purple carrots and 2 unknown pods from the garden

my first pair of socks turned out well and fit perfectly. i've started the second pair trying a different type toe and heel this time.

i'm becoming more comfortable with the dp needles

i've also done a bit more on the piece i started in Karen Ruane's Ledger Class. a couple of more additions and then i'll start embellishing with stitch.

i go through periods of hating and liking this piece but am determined to finish it.

and finally, i've started a Fabric Journal. i'm just adding bits of fabric from projects i'm working on. haven't decided yet how i will do the labeling. i always love looking through Jude's threadcrumbs on her blog so that was the inspiration.

i really want to go out and plant seeds for a fall garden but it is just too hot. hope you're all staying cool.

Your socks look comfy Deanna :) I hope the carrots leave some color behind, show us will you?

Good luck with the purple carrots!

I have postponed planting my fall garden as well. I figure 100+ degrees is too hot for me and for any seedlings that might pop up. Your socks are wonderful! I have yet to attempt sock making, so I applaud you. Keep cool!

deanna make sure you use the tops of the carrots, ordinary carrot tops will give a green and purple tops should give a purply green.
you're doing well with the socks. great going.

Very inspiring post Deanna. Plenty on here with purple carrot, socks journal and fabric to play with. Those purple carrot will give good color. I will mordant the silk with alum or soy milk to keep more color in - good job on growing your own carrots. Keep cool now - Hugs Nat
PS: you inspired me to take up sock knitting again, thanks

Congrats on your first pair of socks. In case you need to know, we call them fraternal twins, since the patterns do not match exactly. Try the kitchner stitch on the toe-not hard and fits in your shoe nicely. Use YouTube if you have to. They look comfy.

such cute socks- great job! i've never done toe ups before.
enjoying the circles of all kinds on that piece you're stitching.

Your self-taught "first-ever" pair of socks are amazing, as is your patience and persistence. Every time I visit you here, I'm inspired and encouraged to try something new, and something hard (knitting socks) for me.

the piece which is evolving from the ledger class is a triumph....at the moment you love it then you hate it. I have a feeling it will eventually become an old friend. I am so impressed with your socks...they're amazing.

The socks are just perfect! I admire anyone who can knit socks!
The fabric journal looks like a lot of fun, very soothing to work on something like that. Reminds me of my Magical book of Certain Events book. A wip. Texas heat is brutal. That is the one thing I did not like about growing up there. I never got used to the heat.
So, try to stay cool. Maybe you can get out early in the morning??? I tried not to get out past noon, when my children were babies.

p.s. love your fabric piece...it has a lot of character!
Sometimes a piece just grows and becomes more beautiful with each stitch.

Deanna, you have enough carrots to see what they'll do. I'm so glad yours grew and I'm looking forward to your outcome. The socks look beautiful, it must be such a good feeling, one I may never know! ;-)) I always love seeing your ledger pages and the cloth journal is a very good idea -- could you give a class on making those, maybe?

agree that the socks are truly impressive! and not even a rest, just onto the next pair! I go through lots of love/hate with stuff I work on and have learned to not pay all that much attention. For what it's worth - I LOVE it - the bold colors look so so great and I love how the dots make the eye jump around.

Your socks looks great and comfortable! well done!Your ledger page is inspiring.I wonder what shade dye will you get from purple carrots, will it be pinkish(magenta)purple? I'm curious to know about this dye, looking forward to see your silk piece...

you should see my carrots, ha, teeny. mom used to make socks like that, seems so complicated to me.

I have to laugh. I finally pulled one of my "purple carrots" (which I found seeds for and planted this past spring after I learned from you there was such a thing). It was about 4-5 inches long not counting the greens and the root, but it was orange...so I ate it! I'll give the others a little more time in the ground, but I'm not holding much hope.

Oh! I missed the start of the purple carrot story. I know carrots were originally purple but I admit, I've never seen them around to cook. I'd like to try, do they keep their colour?

I've never seen purple carrots either. They are stunning!
