cutting it up ...

if you've been following along, you already know about the blue and white dress fiasco. more about that here.
i started the transformation with the collar. i just cut it in half, reversed one side and stitched it at the bottom and along the sides, folded down the top flaps and stitched on 2 buttons and added a ribbon down the center. the ribbon was a gift from a friend when we visited some museums in NYC a few years ago. it will be a convenient pouch for small knitting, crochet or stitching projects. it measures 8" x 4".

UPDATE ON INDIGO:
unfortunately the indigo seedlings are not making much progress. i've been nursing them along but i think it's a lost cause:

and wish there were more of these variegated cosmos coming up. most on the plant are just solid color but these were a nice surprise.

hope you're all having a good weekend.

my indigo is about the same height. i'm keeping it outside under the shade of a huge sunflower - maybe it will get a clue from the "big brother!" i said that i have some of the ribbon too over at CB2 but i love this ribbon. i haven't done anything with mine but it is going to be used someday for just the right thing. cosmos always look strong and delicate at the same time. lovely color and great to have it - hope you'll collect seeds. cheers

I love that little pocket for your needles (but that's not all that is left of that dress is it ??? lots of other little sacks to be made ....)
That myrtle looks so sweet !
I had a normal white one (at least I think it's the same plant) but it's frozen in that last ripple of winter this year .... :-(

i just SMILE at your persistence.
and really, you will probably
enjoy this little pouch way more
than the dress...and, it's only
the beginning! the ribbon is
truly wonderful...even tho i don't
knit..it's just so interesting..

What else are you going to turn bits of the dress into? There must be quite a bit of fabric yet!

Dresses dont do much for me these days either in terms of comfort. Infact I have to wear one for my daughters wedding in august and Im already dreading it!!
I admire your resolve though to not waste the fabric
I do like the needle pouch and its clever using the collar for it too. The crochet edging makes it look nothing at all like a collar!

Good use of the collar Deanna. Never have too many purses or pockets. I saved a collar from something not too long ago. I might turn into a purse too - thanks for a great idea...

Love your new knitting pouch, and that ribbon is wonderful. Perfect for this project. I haven't worn a dress for years. I've made my daughter promise to have a casual wedding so I can wear pants!!

Love the needle holder, very creative. Well you are not the only one with indigo problems. Mine are barely coming up. We have been in a drought situation here and even though I water, it isn't the same as rain water. Looks like it will be winter before I have anything. I still have some seeds, so I might try some in a pot so I can bring it in this winter. Love experimenting.

Your collar pouch is grand! And I love that ribbon :) Isn't interesting how the blooms change all on their own? My roses do that. Change color, edges, shape...you know.

The pouch is so cute, love the ribbon.
Awaiting to see the transformation of the other parts of the dress, especially how you are going to use all the embellishments on the dress

Deanna, this first project from the dress turned out so great -- ingenious! I thought the ribbon was sign language at first. And, actually, it is. Knitting sign language. xo

LOVE that ribbon!! Also that you have reworked it into something that can hold safe the tools you use for making - making it part of a constant cycle of making - marvellous!
