finishing up and moving on...

the back of the jacket was finished yesterday...

stitched with some variegated threads and mixed some of that taupe and beige thread that was wonderful to work with. don't know what it is or where it came from but it was in my stash.

i know some of you like to see the back of the stitching.

stitched onto the jacket using a beige thread and stitched between the seems so it wouldn't show.

working on the pocket today...

i hand dyed all the fabric and a bit of tatting left over from the plackets.
UPDATE ON THE JACKET 5-31-2012:
the jacket is complete and i'm just adding the final pics so they will all be in the same place.

the only machine stitching done was when i added the pocket to the jacket. i added a stiffener within so the pocket wouldn't flop and it was too thick to hand stitch.

the completed front

the jacket is now hanging in the closet waiting for fall and cooler weather.

i stopped in the thrift store this morning as all their clothing was 50% off. picked up a dress and a blouse that will be remade into something...the blouse is a large and the dress is a 2X so there's lots of cloth to work with.  got them both for $3.

cotton blouse with some nice cut work and cotton dress that will be perfect after some major alterations.
and the garden is doing really well...except of course for the indigo that is growing about 1/8" a week...but i'm not giving up just yet.

Your stitch work is so very beautiful and I love the tatting on the pocket. I wonder if I can squeeze a trip to the thrift store into my day? LOL! Wishing you a beautiful day.

don't know if you posted the "finished" back on the forum so happy that i stopped by to see what was up. it really makes the piece stand out. there is something royal or military about it - something like the turn of the century vienna. looks very smart and the pocket, well like i said - why don't designer think women need pockets...you always find something good at the thrift shop...and my indigo is just sitting there too. bathing in the heat and sun but that's about it - at this rate...oh well, will just wait too. cheers

your jacket is so perfect for autumn which is still happening here in the land Down Under with lots of leaves turning and dancing in the wind!
Orange is a colour I have never really embraced but my house is full of orange things friends have given me in the last few years, cushions, throws, scarves & most recently an an orange felt cat head coin purse which is downright silly but gives me a laugh whenever I use it... it's all very odd as I'm a turquoise blue person so it's the opposite colour on the wheel but your experiments with rust are making it more accessible to my mind and on a gut level literally as it is the colour of the creative womb 2nd chakra after all!

How beautiful your stitches are! I bet you can't wait to wear it :) We're at 86 degrees, so too hot for a jacket!

So very fine! It's inspiring to see your process, honestly I don't see how it could be any better. ;-) Your indigo looks like it's coming along, mine isn't much bigger and yours is from seed! xo

Cracking buys from the charity shop! Funny enough theres seersucker back in our local store that sells fabric, havent seen it for sale for years! Though your blue and white looks like cotton to me not seersucker.

The pocket is a poem, I like the shape, the colors and the tatting. Nice finds, I am curious to see what you will be making with them.

I love your jacket and am inspired - how wonderful to use our work to wear instead of yet another wall hanging, tray cloth etc etc. Oh dear, does this mean I shall start more cloth weaving? Ha ha, why not?

That pocket is so exquisite - and what a fine, special jacket you now have to wear. Great job!

love it! agree with Henrietta that there is something royal or military about it. I am reminded of Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. The detailing is exquisite... pocket alone is an entire landscape in and of itself. Last but not least - a picture of you wearing it in the fall?

Hi Deanna

Your jacket turned out beautifully.

I love the colors you used and especially on the pocket. It sure adds to it.

Are you taking Karen's Next class. I think I will.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Must get back to it.

Hugs
