Moonglow in progress

This moon piece was started here. It reminds me of the times when the sun is setting and you can also see the moon. Haven't seen that in a long time but it is in my memory. This moon does have a face penciled in but have not stitched it yet. The idea for the diamonds came from looking at the video of the Cosmati Pavement in Westminster Abbey. I made a pattern to cut out the buildings in the little village below the moon. The bottoms are just basted down because I'm not yet sure what will happen in that area. All suggestions are welcome. I also think that my stars (thread beads) are not the right color. They have no life to them as they are. Just sharing my thoughts and images as I progress through this piece. Lots of stitching planned.

Thats taking great shape Deanna, what a lovely interpretation of the fabric! Love the huts/houses, they look as if they should have kayak like boat tied up out front!

I really like this, Deanna. Have you thought about having some diamonds falling below the sun/moon? As though it is spreading the glow or tears. Just a thought. Your base fabric is gorgeous and I love the woven center.

i like your colours and the concept and the arrangement but i want chimneys! maybe because it's cold here right now. and a few actual beads will shine up the thread beads, mixed in with them.

some great suggestions, lyn, jeannie and kaite. and there will be stitched chimneys eventually.

It's looking great Deanna. I like the background cloth too. How about blue thread beads to lift the color on the moon. The village is cute - Hugs Nat

I love the feel of this piece, Deanna. It reminds me of a favorite artist of Alaskan life, Rie Munoz. Are you familiar with her?

This is just beautiful - inspiring too, you have given me an idea for a cloth I am working on - thank you. What a great find that fabric was :)

Deanna, it's awesome. Just awesome. Other people may have already said this, but maybe some of the colors in the moon could be used for the beads. The foundation cloth could not be more perfect!

the color of stars...when i look
at them here, in very dark nights,
they appear to be all colors and
then change...could be from staring
stare-ing too long?

this is such a story of stories, deanna! of the sky & those living in the village below, each house full of its own stories. star color... my first thought was a bright blue to contrast with the oranges, but i really like grace's rainbow idea. is there a rainbow verigated thread out there?

deanna7trees said...

thanks, cindy. i did already try a variegated thread but i didn't think it showed up well enough. i want them to sparkle and i think the only thing that will do that is a small bead. so that is what i will try next. a mix of bead and thread might do it.

oh my is that a velvet star i have discovered.
"lusciously lovely", is must say!
and your story continues with an ending
yet to be known...
all in good time.
in the mean time.
"have a good time"!

i think the bead stars will start to show more the more you do...maybe some could be added too...single strands of thread 'radiating' from the beads?? like putting a big X over the bead??? stars don't show up as well around a bright beast like the sun anyway...doesn't mean they aren't there.

beads are a great idea. and looking forward to seeing the sun's face come to life.

just tried the bead, cindy and i like the way it looks. i used a linen thread to make the star and then came back with a fine thread and placed a tiny bead in the center. will post a picture soon.

Love your moon face over on Sew. Also enjoyed the story of the eagle babies - fascinating.

I love this whole thing and your referencing the Cosmati pavement (thanks again for that link); I especially like the way your village is arranged. Each little house just perfectly nestled in place. This is really cool Deanna!
