the sun is finally shining....

and the rain has stopped for the moment but more is predicted. You've probably all heard on the news about the floods in Texas. Lots of people lost everything and so many trees were just snapped in half so there's lots of cleaning up going on. I am lucky to live in a neighborhood where there was little damage. The good side of all this is that we are no longer in a drought status. The lake has gone from 36% full to 74% full and still rising. This is good news for so many reasons. Wishing the best for all those who have lost friends, family, their homes and belongings.

Have spent lots of time indoors this week avoiding the dangerous flood areas and there is lots right here in my own little space to inspire.

This shell was gifted to me from a friend who just came back from Florida. Can't wait to doodle a similar design with paper and pencil....such a beautiful pattern.

I did test out some colors to surround the paper weavings I've been doing. There are 16 blocks to put together which will make a paper blanket about 16" x 16". The final decision was blue. I'm crocheting around the block and then whip stitching the pieces together.

a very soft bamboo thread to edge the weavings

Lots of wonderful things happening in Karen Ruane's latest class Embroidered Pockets. We are working with ledgers as well as with cloth.

inspiration from children's books

using a Sunbonnet Sue book as a ledger

stitching and doodling on broderie anglaise

added bumpy bits over the lace motif

Working on the back of this pocket today....so nearly finished. Have lots of ideas for the next one so can't wait to get started.

Hope you all are having a great weekend and hope to see you next week.

JUST A FACT:  Honey does not spoil. You could feasibly eat 3000 year old honey.

It's good you have your crafts to occupy you while you are staying in! I like your embroidery anglaise work, it's looking good, and the colour of bamboo thread looks great with your paper weaving. I hope you have plenty of food in. Stay safe! Barbara xx

Your paper weaving looks fantastic, so even and the light blue bambus yarn looks very well with it together.

Interesting fact about honey - not so sure, however, that I would be willing to eat 3000 year old stuff!! Your paper blocks must be really tiny if the blanket is only going to end up being 16" square - wow. And like the choice of blue, btw.

The blue looks lovely. I have a gorgeous deep purple bamboo yarn that I love the look/feel of. The broderie anglaise is really pretty. Glad you've fared well in the rains, been thinking about you.

Just love what you've done with your pouch, I'm sure you will have lots more before the end of class. The paper quilt is coming together nicely too. Glad you've kept safe with the rain, it has been a difficult time for so many people

the floods have been terrible, we have seen photos here of what is happening and then in other places they are desperate for rain, so sorry for all the devastation they have caused.
Such a variety of projects you have on the go to keep you busy whilst stuck at home

I do think the blue was a wonderful choice Deanna. We heard about your floods over here too, sounds dreadful I am happy you are safe and intend to stay that way by avoiding risky areas.
You already know how much I love the work you are doing for the pocket class but it's even more of a pleasure to see the process here....

I hope the weather settles down for you, although poor weather does provide a great excuse to stay inside and stitch!

My honey doesn't hang around that long but I've never had a strong adherence to use by dates.
I love the blue you're using to join the paper squares. What are you going to do with the blanket when it's finished?
I can't believe you've nearly finished your first pocket!

Blue is a good choice and it goes really well ..love your broderie anglaise piece..is that Rhodes stitch? It's good that the water levels have raised but feeling sad for those who've lost their loved ones..

So glad you are ok Deanna, sad about the loss of life and all the flooding leaving people without homes or precious items being lost to the flooding. While in Dallas this started three days before we left and I was hoping that it would not get so bad. Although the good from this is that TX is no longer in a hard drought. Stay safe and create more beautiful pockets.

I have been thinking of you when I heard from the news about Texas heavy rain and flood! I'm please you weren't effected! Coming out of the drought is a good thing. We went through it for 6 years. Love that shell. I can see so many designs coming out from it - Hugs Nat

I'm so glad to hear you're safe and sound Deanna - the flooding reports were awful, and so sad to hear so many tragic stories. I hope your reservoir continues to rise but slowly this time...
I love seeing all you are doing these days. It's always so very inspirational to visit your blog and see and read about what has captured your interest of late - you make my fingers twitch!
