I DID IT.....

This is the last you'll see of the Downton Abbey coat. I have worn it twice and it's cozy warm. It will be a long time before I take on such a huge project. I started it in November of 2013. It didn't actually take that long to knit....just had to stop and give myself lots of breaks due to boredom.

scrollwork on the collar.....tab with 2 buttons

close up of the scroll work done with a crochet hook through the knitting

2 buttons on the front....black marks are in the wool

I've been playing with mosaic tiles this week...It all started with this video. You can see the tiles about 40 seconds into the video. I was able to get a couple of samples of mother of pearl tiles and I'm doing some sampling with embroidery.

mother of pearl tiles on a mesh grid. each tile is 3/4" square

I took the hammer to some of them and did some embroidery

added some grass through the cracks

and did a bit of weaving

Time will tell where all this will lead....I have some ideas. Sometimes, too many ideas.

We've been having Spring like weather but more cold days are predicted. My double narcissus bulbs are blooming so I know that Spring is not far away. Wish I could send those of you inundated with snow some of our weather. Stay safe and warm.

Oh I love that coat! I was thinking it would be longer for some reason but that's such a great length and much more useful I would think.
That scrolling works really well too!
It wouldn't have occurred to me to use the tiles in that way, that's so clever! And just perfect with the French knots and grass.

You did! Deanna, it turned out beautifully, just amazing! I loved seeing it on you. The tiles...well, well, well. I was married to a tilesetter and never in a million years would I have thought of this. They are darling.

I know what you mean about ideas, my head is buzzing with them all of the time.
I think your coat is just amazing, how you had the patience to make it I don't know, I've done lots of knitting but I think this would have daunted me.
The tiles are gorgeous, what are you going to do with them, although you don't really need to do anything with them, its just the making that's the pleasure isn't it?

The long awaited viewing of THE COAT! I love the length of it, I too thought it would be longer...mid calf. Your hard work has certainly paid off. It is such a classic style you will have many opportunities to show it off.
The tiles are so interesting what a fascinating idea...another one of your projects will be waiting to see more of!

Deb

It may have taken you a long while to make, but your Downton coat looks lovely and I'm sure you'll wear it a lot.
I've not neen on Flickr lately so I've not seen the way you used your tiles. The french knots look lovely and the weaving is a great idea. More beautiful work from you♡

Bravo, bravo, Deanna. You did a great job in finishing the coat - with much patience. Who wouldn't get bored with such a big thing. So nice to see you in it due to the selfie. And the scrolling work gives a special touch to it.
