creating a hexagon from a circle....

First I'll show you the 2nd pillow I finished in Karen Ruane's class Pillows and Pages. I'm leaning towards fun pillows as you can tell if you saw the one I posted last week....and I've been having fun creating them. I've always loved cows and am using up fabric in my stash so that's the theme of this one...I have an idea of who will receive this one sometime in the future. It measures 11" x 8".

click on the images for close-ups.

lots of soft bumpy places for pins and needles and hooks and an eye for loose threads. you can see the reflection of the  pillow edge in the iron.

the back has a rooster that was the edge of a vintage hanky, some prairie points and a loop for hanging.

and now the hexagons from circles....this is so fast and easy and I'm loving the back with all the little pockets. Here's a link with a tutorial, if you want to try it.
I just used some fabric scraps to try it out....

they turn out perfectly and it takes just a couple of minutes to make each one
The surprise for me was that the back has tiny little triangular pockets. I will definitely be highlighting the back on my next project....I'll show you that next time.

there are 29 little triangular pockets

...and I'll leave you with this wonderful video. It's just 3 minutes long and very worth watching.
The link is here. Enjoy it and have a great week.

a very pretty pillow. Yes I have come across this way to do hexies before, but I have hundreds of card hexies cut out so still doing mine the traditional way, silly really as the circles are much quicker. When I ant different sized ones I think I will do the circles

Nice finished pillow for a gift to someone in the future. That hexagon method is great too, thanks for the link. That video is in Thai and it is so true - Hugs Nat

I love your pillows! I like the back of the hexagons! I am a pocket lover. Always putting things in my pockets. Getting ready for my trip to Dallas to visit my son. I'm taking a class right now called The Eternal Thread by Heather Marano at The Merry Spinster. Working on a goddess, I will post to my blog when finished. Have a good week.

Lovely work and hexies are my current obsession. Now, with little pockets on the back, what could be better?! xCathy

The hexie technique reminds me of the 'folded star' potholders I made back in the early 1980's! Love the pocket and the little rooster ;)

Beautiful work - as usual! So, I'm trying to figure out the pillow with the hooks and eyes….is this like a pin cushion? The hooks and eyes are a great idea as a sewing aid. If I'm way off base, I'll chock it up to 'chemo brain'….works for me! LOL

The back the hexagons are probably more interesting than the front made that way. Love the pillow too
