ties and teacups....

my lace teacher shared a pattern for a little pouch made with ties. i can't resist another pouch and one which is made in a unique way with old ties....i have a huge box of them. a good way to recycle them.

click on the images for close-ups.

i followed the directions when making the first one. added a leaf button for embellishment on the front.

the back

i made the second one with a different type handle.

i used my fasturn tool to make some cording with the material left over from the ties used.

the front
also played with paper this week inspired by Karen Ruane...
i started out just collaging some tissue paper. then decided on the teacup inspired by Ann Wood who provided a template. i used her template but went in another direction with the embellishing.

it started out with tissue paper collage and then some free motion embroidery where i added the lace and then some hand embroidery.

formed the cup and gave it a base

and it needed a hand and a saucer which still has to be given some hand embroidery.
i really enjoyed doing that. hope to make some more some day with some different pattern designs.

last time, i showed you the results of my black bean dyeing. i've tried it again. did it a bit differently this time and added copper pipe and wire to the liquid, hoping for a deeper blue. i'll be checking it later today and will post the results next time.

it's nice and cool here today, in the 50s, and it feels so good.

wishing you all a great weekend and a productive week ahead.

Wow!!! You have been busy. The tea cup is exquisite. One can never have too many pouches and I really like the one you made with the cording. So many ideas, not enough time! :)

I wonder if I bought some ties in the charity shop recently because I had a sixth sense that you would be sharing these bags with us. They are beautiful ans as for the tea cup I am amazed it is truly a work of art.

The bags are wonderful, I've always fancied doing a quilt from old ties, but have never got around to it. The tea cup is amazing, really beautiful

Always something new and fun, whenever I visit here. The ties you used coordinate so well with each other and what a great use for them. I have a few in my stash and saved them to use as straps for a bag....but never thought of using them for a bag. Your adaptation with the cording dresses that little pouch up.
The teacup, WOW really cute and of course you would make a saucer to go along with it!

the pouches are very clever, I used to imagine making one of those tie quilts from K's old ties....probably not ever going to happen. & what a beautiful tea cup! I love Ann Wood's work.

Your teacup is wonderful Deanna! I do love the purple colour, and the idea is so clever - I never thought of doing anything three dimensional with the technique but it's brilliant.

I've never heard of a fast turn tool.I make small bags often and I think to have a tool like that would be really helpful so could you please tell where is it available?

Had a wonderful catch up over your doings for the last month or so and it's amazing - I'm so inspired by your work with Karen. I really wish I had time to take one of her classes. The toggles are great - and that use of a woven label was inspired! I've loads of them and really must try that idea out!
