a new pin cushion

i saw a wonderful vintage pin cushion on facebook that inspired the start of a new pin cushion for me. it involves some wooden parts that i haven't managed to put together yet but this is the start...i made that little bear head many years ago and stitched it onto some of my grandmother's crochet. the ball measures about 3" in diameter. click on images for close-ups.

3" diameter ball made with kimono silk cloth. hand made bear head on grandma's crochet
in the last post, i showed you some fabric wrapped cording. the basket is now complete and this one will be mine. all the others were given as gifts.

fabric coiled basket made with cloth scraps

and still working on samples for my Alchemy class journal with Karen Ruane.

an old family photo...a map-like collage in cloth...some musical notes with names of operas. my mom loved to sing opera.
have another great week. i'll be back soon.

I love that coil basket too. Did you hand stitched it? I should get back to finish mine too if I can find where I placed it hehe! Have a good weekend - Hugs Nat

lovely post Deanna...I like how you finish your little baskets with a 'twirl' at the upper lip and the tiny scissors in this one finish it off beautifully. Love the progress of the musical notes....

the pin cushion is a little jewel - like a Faberge egg...i don't know if you'll be using it as something to hold pins but it certainly does extend your alchemy thoughts with that touch of grandma...tosca that is my note for the day! cheers.

Beautiful Deanna...I love the teddy bear pin cushion. How special...kimono fabric, your grandmothers lace, an old bear head you made a long time ago.

Love your coil baskets too. I made one a year or so ago with Nat...need to make more. They are beautiful!

The basket is charming especially knowing that it was made out of scraps, but I love to see how your journal comes out. I am intrigued because I am soon going on an 'artistic' tour and I will be making a journal as well.

Hi, Deanna. That's a mighty tiny bear head to make! I find your journal pages for Karen's class to be both beautiful and interesting. I like the idea of developing ways to bring family artifacts into the present, ways to honor them. A work of Memory.
best, nadia
