sorting fabric...

I have spent the past 2 days sorting fabric and haven't really made a dent. I'm determined to give away lots of fabric that I know I'll never use. My goal is to have it all organized when I finish. Lots of it is already organized. It's just that there is too much around for which there is no place. I actually enjoyed going through bins and stacks and finding pieces that will go into my magic cloth.

just a bit of what's already been gone through

I also removed all those orange hexagons from my cloth, wrapped them around tin cans and dropped them in the dye pot. I like them much better now, and played around with some ideas.

just playing around with some ideas

I unbundled the silk/linen that was wrapped around the copper pipes. I like the fringe effect the string wrapping gives. I'm learning how to wrap the string to give different effects.

silk/linen in colorhue dye and then wrapped around copper pipe and simmered in the dye pot.

And finally, this article was posted on facebook by Fabienne Dorsman-Rey: The Unleashed Mind: Why Creative People Are Eccentric. I found it very interesting. You can find it here.

oh, deanna, as usual, so much to look at, especially having missed a couple of weeks! your dyeings are inspiring, love the can & string combo & will try it.
we also love andy goldsworthy & have checked that movie & his books out of our library several times.

Your stitched scrim cloth looks so good on your cloth, as do the hexagons. My goal after the holidays is to sort and de-clutter. I am hoping for a lot of snow days so I can't procrastinate. Have a wonderful day!

sorting thru fabric can be so rewarding, maybe i can do that in the new year. I was given a huge bag of it recently.

i like your orange hexies very much, is that photo the befores or the afters? and your string binding marks are very attractive.

Oh Deanna...this is all so wonderful...the toned down hexies now have such dimension! I love it! Add the can-dyed floss that Jude posted about and Ta-Da!!!
Your wrapping techniques are amazing...such results :)
I went through some fabric too last night for the last gift to be made and saw stuff I'd forgotten all about. I really need to ... no, I really Want to give some away! I think more on this idea soon :)

It must be the time of the year to go through fabric stash. I have been thinking about going through mine too. I like the new orange hexies better too - Enjoy Nat

Some gorgeous things here. I think my aunt used to preserve copper beech leaves in glycerine to use in flower arangements. I remember them having that sort of sheen and a plasticky feel.
The orange hexagons have a lovely firey feel and I really love the fringe effect of the string wrapping around your bundles - I actually thought it was a fringe for a moment!
