a must see film...and a new book

Rivers and Tides is a must see film for sooooo...many reasons. Andy Goldsworthy tells about his magnificent creations and shows his process. The complete movie, which is 1hr and 30min long is available here and is also available on Netflix, if you are a subscriber. Here are a few images for inspiration.

this web is made only from sticks found in nature

the wool from sheep is spread out on the top of this rock formation

he builds these egglike shapes from flat rocks
and then watches as the tide comes in and takes it all away. He says, "I have not made the work to be destroyed. The work has been given to the sea as a gift and the sea has made more of the piece than I ever could have".

I hope you will take the time to watch this movie. It was recommended to me by Henrietta and I am very grateful.

AND  I'd like to share with you a new book I found. I had some time to kill and walked into Half Price Books just to browse but couldn't resist this one. There is so much inspiration here for manipulating cloth and my list of ideas is already a mile long. Lots of shibori possibilities here as well.

and just a few images from within
AND LAST DAY TO SIGN UP FOR THE GIVEWAY HERE.

I love Andy Goldsworthy's work. The film has been watched many times here and I have given copies as gifts. His books are excellent as well. Wolff's book is a classic and so full of inspiration. Wishing you a fun filled week.

Oh Deanna I have just watched A.G's film. So beautiful. I've known about his photography, but not his work on film. I will try to buy it so can watch on a bigger screen. Thankyou so much for sharing this beautiful film. Marg. ox

Deanna, I love Andy Goldsworthy's work and have been thinking about it a lot lately. The whole way do we make...simplify...stuff. I have this partially written post on this subject. Just can't seem to pull All of my thoughts together. Thanks for sharing this. And that book looks wonderful!

Oh - that is a favourite movie of mine, too - one I have watched several times. And I also love that book - although I have not delved into it much - so look forward to seeing where you take it's pages!

I love Andy Goldsworthy too. With the kids in school I made something with autumn leaves and made photos afterwards, they liked it very much.
The book seemes to be interesting, I will try to get it.
Have a nice weekend.
