I came up with this in a google search: Japanese Ink Painting by Naomi Okamoto (http://books.google.com/books?id=QwajLqhDzCIC&pg=PA23&lpg=PA23&dq=first+stroke+painting&source=bl&ots=8puaVJ5irt&sig=UPkAFlGAiLCo9zEZoaBsuvpsszc&hl=en&ei=_WZ5StaoMZmEtgfujtCWCQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=2#v=onepage&q=first%20stroke%20painting&f=false )
The link previews a few pages with lots of info on brushes, etc... And this from Wise Geek: Sumi-e is sometimes confused with calligraphy, because the tools used are the same. Calligraphy is the graceful, artistic representation of written characters, using ink and brush, while sumi-e is painting a scene or object.
Cheers,
DebDebbie Bateshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03692454214869278959noreply@blogger.com
